Ko tō tūranga – your role

This senior role will be responsible for leading our design practice in defining exceptional customer experiences for existing and new customer journeys! Our Lead CX Designer will be responsible for leading and supporting our designers on multiple projects to gather, develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer needs and will use Human Centered Design tools to solve customer problems.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for a CX Thought Leader to take ownership of shaping and driving our customer experience strategy as we move forward as One NZ! You will direct ambitious and complex design projects, elevate the use of data driven insights to inform strategy while also mentoring and building capability within our design practice and our larger business.

Ko tō mahi – what you’ll do

  • Lead and set the direction of our design practice by taking a data driven and insight lead approach; translating the data into actionable insight and strategy and setting the narrative within the business for the research required.
  • Bring a deep expertise of Design to educate the business and upskill understanding of design, running ideation sessions and workshops to help challenge assumptions, think outside the box and achieve our goals bringing stakeholders on a journey.
  • Effectively lead the delivery of ambitious and complex projects supported by a collaborative team. Form strong relationships with all key stakeholders, leading multiple larger projects with external clients or key internal stakeholders.
  • Regularly champion, practice and ensure the use of best practice human centered design approaches amongst the Design practice and the wider team.
  • Challenge the design team and key stakeholders to use better data across projects, and work collaboratively with data experts to surface that data.
  • Informally manage designers, contractors, suppliers and agency to build capability and ensure the best project outcomes.

  • Strong experience overseeing multiple design projects ensuring best practice execution and high-quality outputs.
  • Experience executing simple through to complex qualitative and quantitative customer research.
  • A track record in synthesising research outputs effectively and communicating key messages to stakeholders using both visual and verbal mediums to present back findings.
  • Ability to effectively manage large groups of stakeholders including senior and executive leadership.
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to drive engagement of design in strategic business conversations and delivery of key initiatives.
