Do you find yourself aware of your creative ‘destination’, but you’re unsure of how to get there?

Oftentimes we are held back from reaching our creative goals because of our lack of ability. The idea you have in your brain is gold – be it a gift idea, a new logo or a unique print marketing idea. Whatever it is, you fear you don’t have the know-how to pull it off exactly how you envision. So the idea sits in the ‘idea graveyard’ – the ‘too hard basket’.

I specialize in listening to someone’s creative needs, thinking up a solution and taking a crack at it. Whether you need a custom branded map to promote your location, graphic design work to improve brand visibility or creative consulting to strengthen brand awareness – I am here to help navigate and execute your ideas.

I am a multidisciplinary creative / problem solver – which basically means that I get (possibly too) excited about a creative endeavor and do what it takes to complete it. I provide a range of Graphic Design, Illustration and Brand Identity services. And at the core of my process, no matter what creative solution I am providing, I work to find the solution that delivers the necessary results. I have experience in graphic design and illustration for branding, print and social media. Below you can find a list of my core services:

To me, transparency and communication are the most important parts of a working relationship.

I believe that the client should have an understanding of the creative process and what is happening at every stage. I don’t believe in completing a project in a creative ‘hidey-hole’, only emerging for the revision stages or when the project is complete (this magician does reveal her secrets!).

For me, communication is a two-way street. If I can effectively communicate throughout the creative process, then it opens the other lane for the client to have their say where needed – providing a more effective outcome.

When working with me, you can expect two things:

For me to put a great deal of emphasis on the planning and research stages. This creates a solid foundation moving into the ‘build’ stages. And for me to get as excited about the outcome as you will!

As 'Amy Lou Creative', I am a freelance graphic designer / illustrator. I work to provide creative solutions for brands and businesses. This involves providing graphic design, illustration and consulting services - and at times a mix of the three.

Graphic deisgner

  •  Oct 2020 - Present

At No9, no two days are the same in regards to graphic design. The projects I complete range from small jobs such as designing business cards and social media content - to larger jobs, for example branding and web design. No9 is also a franchise for Printing.com New Zealand, which means that aside from graphic design, I am also working to process and send various jobs to print, ensuring that the client is happy with the product they will receive - and doing so in a timely manor.

In-House E-Marketing Designer

  •  Diahann Boutique
  •  Mar 2019 - Sep 2021

In this role, I designed marketing EDM’s twice week as well as social media content to accompany each EDM. This involves using programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator or other drawing apps as well as Campaign Monitor to send the campaigns.

  •  Hawke's Bay Wine
  •  Feb 2020 - Jun 2020

In this 19 week internship, I was part of a marketing team as a designer to bring a new look to Hawke’s Bay Wine’s digital communications. My projects included: creating a social media plan/content, designing promotional & educational material and attending marketing meetings to consult from a design point of view.

Bachelor of Creative Practice

  •  Eastern Institute of Technology
  •  Feb 2017 - Nov 2019

When I started my student journey, I was certain that I was to become a fashion designer - thanks to an inspiring high school sewing teacher. From there I completed a Diploma of Fashion and made the decision to cross credit into the Bachelor of Creative Practice. After attending Semi-Permanent and completing a 12 week internship with Snapfire Design in my final year, my world had changed and I made the realization that graphic design
is where I should be.
